Hello Prairie Pumas

Here is some important information

for the week of September 11th.

1) 4th-6th grade families - this Friday we begin our after-school flag football club through a collaboration with the Playmakers foundation.  If your child is interested, they attended an informational meeting on Friday and they will receive their Playmakers application packet on Monday.  Please look for this packet, fill it out, and return it as soon as possible.  Space is limited to the first 15 students who return their completed forms.

2) This past week we averaged between 30 and 40 absences each day.  Our goal is less than 20, so please help us get there by making sure students arrive each day on time and ready to go.

Hello Prairie Pumas!

Here are some important pieces of information

for the week of September 4th.

1)Our book fair gets packed up Wednesday morning, so make sure to visit either before school or after school on Tuesday to pick up some exciting and interesting books before it goes.

2)This Wednesday, we will be kicking off our Active4Me program, which sends texts to parents when their children arrive at school and scan in their tag.  Students who already have tags can come directly to the multipurpose room when they arrive at school in the morning and scan themselves in on our IPad.  If you are interested in receiving a text message so you know when your child arrives at school in the morning, please contact the front office.

3)This week 4th through 6th grade classes will be selecting their Student Council representatives.  This is a great way for our students to demonstrate leadership and see if student government is interesting to them as an activity.  Please talk to your 4th through 6th grader and see if they are interested.

4)Prairie Elementary is in the process of starting up a Flag Football League for 4th through 6th grade students.  Practices will be held once a week on Wednesdays, and the program kicks off on Wednesday, September 13th.  If you are interested in participating, please pick up an application form in the front office.

As always, if you have any questions, you can call us at 662-2898.

Hello Prairie Pumas!

The 2017-18 school year begins on August 21st, and we are looking forward to a great year with all our students and their families!

There will be a few changes you may notice as we kick off the year, so please take a look at the following list so you can see what they are:

*Our school day is 5 minutes longer this year.  TK/Kinder students are released at 2:15.  1st through 3rd grade students are released at 2:25, and 4th through 6th grade students are released at 2:55.

*The layout of our parking lot has changed.  We now have a third lane for dropoff and pickup.  In addition, we will have a staff member who manages our parking lot during these busy times.

*We have a new Language Arts program.  You will see students in Kindergarten through third grade using the Wonders/Maravillas program, and students in 4th through 6th grade using the Benchmark program.

All of these changes will build on the successes we have had with you each year as well as making our instructional program stronger and our school safer.  We look forward to making the most out of all these changes.

In addition, we will be bringing back many things you recognize from previous years and that you asked us to keep during our parent input meetings last year.

*We will continue to provide learning field trips that support our instructional program.  We will be able to do this in collaboration with the Prairie PTA.

*We will continue to provide after-school intervention as well as enrichment classes.  These were things that all our parents requested during our parent input meetings.

*We will continue to provide opportunities for parents to learn and grow as advocates for their children’s education through programs such as PIQE and Parent University.

These are just a few of the things we are excited about for the upcoming year, but by far the thing we are most looking forward to is seeing our students and their families again.  We are proud to serve the families in our Prairie community, and this year promises to be another year of growth and success.  Thank you in advance for all your help and support.

Sincerely,

Scott Clary and Andrea Thomas, Administrators

We look forward to seeing you at these celebrations.

2)The only enrichment class that will run this week will be Musical Theater.  Please look for the green reminder sheets that came home late last week for specific dates and time for different grade levels.  All other after-school groups will be cancelled for next week, including Mad Science, Young Engineers, Playmakers, STEM/Robotics, I-Ready, and Fashion Club.

3)Please make sure that you can attend the scheduled day and time of you parent-teacher conferences.  This is an important opportunity to talk about your child's progress with his/her teacher.

This will be a busy week here at Praire.  Below you will find important information about our upcoming events.

On Monday, January 23rd, we begin our Playmakers program for students in 4th-6th who returned their permission slips.  If your child was invited to participate in Playmakers, please ask them for the confirmation slip they received on Friday.

On Tuesday, we will be holding a celebration for our 3-6 grade students who participated in the last Young Writers Camp.  If your child was in the last 3rd - 6th grade Young Writer's camp, please join us this Tuesday, January 24th at 6:00 PM, to celebrate their finished product.  We will have cake and our young writers will get to share their work.

Our PIQE class will be held this Wednesday, January 25th, from 8:30-10:00 in the morning, and there is still time to join.  This is a fantastic class series for parents that is created to help them help their children be successful in school.  Please plan on attending if you are able to.

On Thursday, January 26th, we will be holding our Spirit Assemblies and it will be our monthly Spirit Day.  The theme this month is "Colors" so students will be assigned a color based on their grade level, and we will ask all our students to wear their grade level color this Thursday.

Do you need before or after-school child care?  If so, our Child Development Center program currently has spaces.  You can find out if they meet your needs by asking in the office.

Also, we are pleased to announce the opening of our Prairie Child Development Center (CDC) here on campus.  If you need child care before or after school, please contact Andrea Nolasco at 530-309-6439.  She can speak with you about your family's needs and provide information about the different programs CDC offers.

Parent conference week will be held November 14th through the 18th.  This week we are sending home the parent conference preference form so that we can assign parents conference days and times.  It is very important that we get these forms back because we use them in several ways:  1)We use them to make sure we assign you a conference day/time you can attend; 2)We use them to schedule siblings together so that you will not have to come on separate days or wait long times between conferences; and 3)We use them to figure out how many translators we need and for what languages.  Please help us make conference week as successful as possible by returning your form by Tuesday, October 18th, 2016.

On our first Wednesday back to school, we got a visit from the Woodland Public Library and their Book Bike.  This amazing program passed out over 100 books to our students.  As part of the visit, News 10 came to run a story.  We made the 5:00 news that night, and we are on their website here: Prairie Book Bike News Story !  Our kids looked fantastic, and we really appreciate the great coverage and the free books!  To learn more about the Woodland Public Library, click here:  Woodland Public Library.

Dear Prairie Community,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!  Classes begin August 22nd, and we are very excited to see our students and families.  Classes will begin at the regular time (8:15 AM).  TK and Kindergarten students will be released at 2:10, grades 1-3 will be released at 2:20, and grades 4-6 will be released at 2:50.

The first day of school is always exciting, and if you would like to walk to class with your child on the first day, we recommend that you walk to school.  If you must drive, please plan on parking out in the neighborhood because we do not have parking for parents here on campus.

If you plan on dropping your child off in the morning on the first day, please plan on keeping a steady flow of traffic through our parking lot.  We will have a parking lot volunteer who will be here to help parents move through the lot quickly and efficiently.

We are looking forward to a great year with our students and their families!

See you soon,

Scott Clary, Principal and Andrea Thomas, Vice Principal
